Leave of Absence
Notes on Leave of Absence or Withdrawal from School
(1) Leave of Absence
According to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, if you have not been engaged in activities related to the status of residence “Student” for more than three months (except in cases where there is a justifiable reason for not engaging in such activities like health issues), your status of residence may be revoked. If you must take a leave of absence to study, please consult with your academic advisor or a faculty member in charge of international students.
During a leave of absence, students are not allowed to engage in any part-time work.
(2) Graduation or withdrawal from the IUJ
After graduation or withdrawal from the IUJ, you are expected to return to your home country even if you are still in the “Student” status. If you wish to stay in Japan for a while to prepare for your return to your home country, you should immediately change your status of residence from “Student” to “Temporary Visitor” or other appropriate status.
It is not possible to continue to stay in Japan with the status of “Student”.
