Garbage Disposal Information

Garbage separation and disposition for SD1, SD2, SD3 and MSA residents

January 1, 2013
Office of General Affairs

In order to adapt the Minamiounuma-city (Yamato-area) garbage management system and to promote waste reducing and recycling, SD1, SD2, SD3 and MSA residents, please separate and dispose of garbage as follows.

1. Burnable and Unburnable Garbage

There are 2 types of rubbish bin allocated in your room. One is for “Burnable Only” and another is for “Cans & Glass Bottles Only”. Please make use of them so that rubbish can be separated as from your room. Please separate the garbage into “BURNABLE” and “UNBURNABLE” (within 15cm in diameter) such as cans, glass bottles, pottery and small batteries (such as for remote controls or radios and others.), then put them in the designated big bucket separated into Burnable and Unburnable in the garbage room.
We often find that cans or glass are put into “Burnable”garbage bucket and the opposite case happened as well.  If you do so, Minamiounuma City Office will refuse to collect the garbage and it requires redundant work to do the separation by IUJ.  So, we really ask you to separate garbage into Burnable and Unburnable correctly.
In the kitchen or lounge, please separate and dispose of garbage into the designated garbage box as well.

Car tires or car batteries are not applicable to Minamiounuma-city waste management; please dispose of them at a gas stand (not free).

However, IUJ will receive your big items, except designated home appliances (explained below) and dispose of them as special services for dormitory residents in period of a week before and after graduation day in June every year (“Special Service Period for Big Items”).  A detailed notice of the designated date and place will be posted at that time.

4. Law for Recycling of Specified Kind of Home Appliances, 4 Products

According to the “Law for Recycling of Specified Kind of Home Appliances” enacted from April 1, 2001, a “Air Conditioner”, “TV”, “Refrigerator” and “Washing Machine” will not be disposed of as a big item.  When you dispose of these products, recycling and disposal costs will be charged as set by the law.  However, the disposal procedures and payment system are very complicated, so IUJ has set the following “IUJ disposal charge” for dormitory residents only.  When you dispose of these products, please ask the housekeeper and follow their instructions.   However, if you can turn them in to the home appliance shop you purchased them from, please contact the shop first.

Air conditioner 5,000yen
TV 2,000yen
Refrigerator 3,000yen
Washing machine 4,000yen

The above 4 kinds of products are not applicable and are not accepted as “Big item” garbage during the “Special Service Period for Big Items”.

The above IUJ waste management is implemented in accordance with the current waste management system in Minamiounuma-city.  However, to promote recycling, the waste separation and disposition rule will change to be more itemized and it will be done as phased in by Minamiounuma-city.  IUJ also will review and enforce IUJ waste management accordingly.
We appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation.

If you have any questions, please let Office of General Affairs know.
