Scholarships After Enrolling

Scholarships potentially available after starting class at IUJ

Students may have chances to apply for scholarships provided by the following foundations after enrolling and starting classes at IUJ.  You are not able to apply before coming to campus and settling in here. Scholarship Information will be posted on the Office of Student Services bulletin board. The OSS staff will assist with the applications.  Outside sources provide some scholarships, and only administered by the OSS.  IUJ cannot guarantee these will be available yearly, nor will an IUJ student win the scholarship in the country-wide competitive process (except for the Nakayama-Alumni Scholarship).

The Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students

This scholarship is provided by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) to a limited number of students (The number will be informed to you after you enroll) who meet the conditions stated below. 

Monthly stipend: 48,000 yen per month

Scholarship period: 6 months (From October* to next March)

*In early November, we will hear the application result, and you will receive the stipends for October and November at the end of November.

Requirements for grant of scholarship: The candidate must fulfill the following conditions. He / She must also sign on the sheet designated by JASSO every month at the OSS.

IUJ Alumni Sohei Nakayama Memorial Scholarship

Nakayama Alumni Scholarship (Monthly Stipend: Up to 100,000 yen)

This scholarship, provided by Alumni donations to the ThANKS Fund, provides a living stipend to students in the 2nd year. Successful applications will have already demonstrated campus leadership aimed at helping the IUJ community interact, and aimed at supporting IUJ-town relations in their 1st year. They will also be committed to continuing this community development in their 2nd year and as an alum to strengthen the Alumni World-wide network.. Application period: May of their 1st year.  Award is given from September to June the 2nd year at IUJ for those in Japan and on campus.

Notes on Conditions:

  • Japanese Skills required: Levels of requirement vary. Some are basic, but most require strong communication skills. Most require the applicant to write their application documents in Japanese on their own., or present their IUJ research work verbally in Japanese.
  • Age Limitation: Some require applicants to be less than 30 or 35 years of age. See specifics for each scholarship.
  • Specific Country: Some scholarships provide only certain nationalities with support, and these often change year to year depending on the aim of the scholarship provider. Please see their specific info on the links provided. If know, IUJ has noted the info. If varying, we ask you to check the websites.
