“Roundtable on Building Education and Research Capacity in Africa”
Poster Exhibition and Session Participation in “Roundtable on Building Education and Research Capacity in Africa”
In accordance with the 4th Global Research Council (GRC) annual meeting, a roundtable discussion on “Roundtable on Building Education and Research Capacity in Africa” was held in collaboration with JSPS and NRF.
We participated in the poster session aimed at networking toward the strategic development in Africa which is one of IUJ’s SGU activities.
In the poster session, we presented our general school information, achievements in hosting students from Africa in the past (ranked at #1 in terms of the number of successful applicants in the 1st batch of ABE Initiative and broadening alumni network), and strategic educational development in African countries in the future ( increasing the number of foreign students and expanding the number of affiliated schools for academic interactions including student exchanges and faculty invitations). The number of IUJ alumni from Africa reached 168 from 27 countries (as of Sep. 1, 2014) and we especially stressed a strong network with 51 alumni in Ghana, through which we already have a base for strategic development in Africa.
At the social gathering after the poster session, we had the privilege of talking to Ms. Eudy Mabuza, Minister-Counsellor and Mr. Daisuke Tanaka, Liaison Officer of the Department of Science and Technology, South African Embassy Japan. Mr. Tanaka expressed his interest in IUJ and would like to visit us in the near future.
We will connect the network built in this poster session to our strategic development in Africa.
