IUJ International Students Experienced Rice-Planting

May 16th 2017, 10 IUJ international students participated in rice-planting which was held at Kokusai Joho high school (KJ). It was a good opportunity for them to experience Japanese traditional culture as well as to enjoy communication with high school students.

KJ is only one high school in Niigata Prefecture designated as Super Global High School (SGH) by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).  SGH program is a project of MEXT to foster globalized leaders who will be able to play active roles on the international stage through education at high schools that contribute to this mission.

KJ aims to foster talent who can disseminate the attraction of UONUMA to the world, and consider/suggest regional issues and related world issues from a global perspective. The research theme for SGH is set as “Developing global talents by sending our messages from the snowy rice-producing region of UONUMA ~Urasa to the world~”.

This time’s rice-planting is one of SGH activities to understand about rice cultivation which is a key industry of Uonuma area deeply.

KJ and IUJ have promised to promote SGH program in concert with each other. We continue to work together on developing globalized leaders who will be able to play active roles on the international stage.
