Clarivate Visits IUJ and Interviews Our Student Library Assistants

We are pleased to announce that Clarivate recently visited our campus and interviewed our Student Library Assistants for a feature article published on the Clarivate official website. This international spotlight highlights the important role our library and students play in supporting academic research and global knowledge sharing.

A Unique Library with a Global Presence

The feature introduces the Matsushita Library and Information Center at IUJ, located in Minamiuonuma, Niigata. Since its establishment in 1982 with a donation from Matsushita Electric, the library has served not only IUJ students and faculty but also the local community. From its early days using handwritten catalog cards to its current advanced digital systems, the library has continuously evolved with the changing information landscape.

Spotlight on Our Student Library Assistants

At the heart of this story are our thirteen Student Library Assistants, who come from diverse countries and work together as one collaborative team. Through workshops, social media activities, and daily support services, they help students learn how to use academic databases and library resources effectively. Their work plays an essential role in helping international students adapt to academic life in Japan.

The article also introduces how many students encounter global academic databases such as ProQuest for the first time at IUJ and how these tools support their research by connecting them to a wide range of international academic publications.

Passing Knowledge to the Next Generation

While digital resources continue to grow, the library also preserves its physical collection of nearly one hundred thousand books. Student Library Assistants even participate in maintaining these materials through preservation activities. This balance between tradition and innovation reflects the core mission of the IUJ library to carry knowledge forward to future generations.
