The Culti Fiesta was held on November 24

The 2018 Culti Fiesta was held on Saturday November 24th, and showcased the best in IUJ’s diversity and culture. This is one of the university’s largest annual events, alongside the Open Day and International Festival held each May. A total of eighteen groups took to the stage on the night, with music and dance performances on display from all corners of the globe. With students hailing from around 50 countries, the sharing of cultures and traditions is a fundamental part of studying at IUJ. IUJ will proudly honor our top academically performing students in the Graduate School of International Management with the “James Brian Quinn Scholar” Award starting with the Class of 2019. This unique honor will be earned only by the top 5% of the graduating class* based on cumulative GPA for the duration of their IUJ degree program. This Award’s namesake, Dr. J. On October 30th, Dr. Malone, Rector of the United Nations University, gave a lecture titled “The UN Security Council at a Time of Geo-Strategic Tension.” Dr. Malone explained the diverse challenges that the UN Security Council faces in addressing current world affairs, such as the increasing complexity of civil wars in the Middle East and Africa, growing difficulties for UN PKOs, nuclear and missile development problems, and the power balance shift with the rise of China. JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka delivers first guest lecture for IUJ’s new Japan Development Program

On October 5th, Shinichi Kitaoka presented a special lecture on “Japan’s modernization and Fukuzawa Yukichi” at the MLIC Hall. Kitaoka is the current president of JICA, and a former professor and president of IUJ. The lecture was part of the new Japan Development Program operated jointly by IUJ and JICA, but was open to any interested students. The lecture gave an overview of Japan’s modernization after the Meiji Restoration, from the perspective of political and diplomatic history. Kitaoka described the transition from the feudal systems of the Edo period (1603-1868) to the modern political institutions and industrial state of the Meiji era.
