1. Why study economics?
There are many reasons to do so. But the Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman may have come up with the best reason. “…I wanted to be a psychohistorian saving galactic civilization. Econ was as close as I could get …” To Paul Krugman’s point, Economics allows for rigorous study of complicated but important issues. For example, economists are integral to solving the climate crisis.
2. What can I do with economics?
The advantage of Economics is it’s breadth. At IUJ our graduates obtain rigorous training which allows them to not only interpret statistics, but also engage in rigorous research. This is valuable in both the public and private sectors.
3. Who is the IDP program for?
Because our program is broad, the program is useful for students working in many different positions. Students not only obtain rigorous training in economics but also econometrics (statistics applied to economics).
4. What type of research can I do?
The IDP faculty have broad research interests. Students have written their Masters Thesis in a wide variety of topics such as: Monetary Economics, Labor Economics, International Trade, Inequality, Education Economics and many more.
5. I haven’t been in school for a long time, will I be able to finish my coursework?
This is a common issue for many of IUJ’s students. Most students are challenged during the first year but IUJ has several support systems in place. Moreover, IUJ has a wonderful collegial environment; students of many different nationalities come together to study and learn together.
