Fulltime Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor Position in International Development Program

The International Development Program (IDP) of the Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) at International University of Japan invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level. We will consider applications from those specialized in Macroeconomics (with a preference for monetary economics).

International University of Japan is located in the Niigata Prefecture and is roughly 1.5 hours from Tokyo. The school specializes in graduate degrees, Masters and PhD, and all courses are delivered in English

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Economics by the time of appointment. Our university values diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

Compensation:

The International University of Japan follows a trimester system. Each trimester is 8 weeks so there are 24 weeks in total. The teaching load is 4 (3 preparations) courses per year. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.

GSIM

Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Data Science

The Graduate School of International Management (GSIM) at the International University of Japan (IUJ) intends to make a faculty appointment to commence in April/January 2024 in Data Science. Those candidates who have IT background and have teaching and research experience in data, analytics, and digital technologies will be given priority.

Qualified candidates must be capable of teaching MBA-level courses in English, and have the capability to teach some of data science related subjects listed as follows but not limited to:

  • Data Analysis with Python
  • Data Visualization
  • Machine Learning
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Text Mining
  • Network Analysis
  • Generative AI

Japanese language abilities are desirable, yet not required for this position.

Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science or a closely related field such as data, analytics and digital technologies by the time of appointment; should have a demonstrated research agenda and teaching excellence, and must be student-oriented, enjoy participating in collaborative research activities. Experience and/or an interest in Japan/Asia region is a good plus. Previous industry experience in managing digital transformation projects, data analytics, digitalization, and AI projects for business is preferred.

A contract-based compensation is commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. For example, the starting salary level for an Assistant Professor is 7 million JPY. The faculty member is to offer four courses per academic year, 105 contact hours, teaching load.
