Research Student at IUJ

A Research Student is a non-degree student who conducts research on a specific topic under the supervision of a faculty member at the International University of Japan (IUJ).
Research Students do not earn academic credits or degrees. Upon completion of the research period, students are required to submit a report on their research achievements.
The period of enrollment is limited to one year, although an extension may be approved upon request.
Research Students may use university facilities, including the library and student dormitories, in the same manner as regular degree students.

Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the admission qualifications equivalent to those required for admission to IUJ graduate programs. In general, applicants should have completed a bachelor's degree or possess qualifications recognized as equivalent by IUJ.

Before Applying

Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their proposed research topic with an IUJ faculty member before submitting an application. A recommendation from an IUJ faculty member is required as part of the application process.

Admissions Procedures

Applications are reviewed by the relevant Graduate School Faculty Meeting.

Admission is granted only when the proposed research can be appropriately supervised and does not interfere with the university's educational and research activities.

Successful applicants will receive an official Letter of Admission after completion of the required procedures and payment of fees.

The tentative schedule for each term and the application deadlines are as follows:

Term Period of Each Term Application Deadline (Residents in Japan)
Fall Term September - December June 1 (June 15)
Winter Term January - March September 1 (September 15)
Spring Term Early April - Late June December 1 (December 15)

Note: Non-Japanese applicants must make arrangements to obtain a “student visa” prior to enrollment. In principle, it takes approximately eight weeks to obtain the visa, provided that all required documents are in order. The processing time may vary depending on the applicant’s country of residence. Therefore, applicants are advised to submit their application documents earlier than the above-mentioned deadline.

  1. Admissions Fee: 120,000 yen (one-time payment only)
  2. Research Supervision Fee: 300,000 yen per credit

Note: IUJ does not provide scholarships for Research Students
