Faculty Development
At IUJ, Faculty Development (FD) is implemented systematically to enhance the quality of teaching and research through organized institutional efforts.
FD System
At IUJ, a Faculty Development (FD) Committee has been established to continuously and systematically improve educational content, teaching methods, and so on.
The FD Committee deliberates on university-wide FD initiatives, formulates and promotes policies, and supports the effective management of educational and research activities.
Under the FD Committee, a Subcommittee on FD(FDSC) has been formed to review and implement tasks entrusted by the Committee.
The FDSC plans and organizes FD Seminars, as well as FD/SD Seminars that include Staff Development (SD), and engages in discussions based on insights gained from these events.
FD Activity Report
Each year, the FDSC compiles an “FD Activity Report” summarizing FD activities for the year and submits it to the FD Committee.
After review and approval by the Committee, the report is published as follows.

a. Presentation (40 minutes)
Title:“Language or content? Assessment in the IUJ context ”
Seminar Summary:
The drive towards English Medium Instruction (EMI) in global higher education institutions shows no sign of slowing down. These EMI programs require proper assessment in order to be academically rigorous. As a result, university educators often find themselves in a position where they have to assess students with limited English proficiency on the content of their EMI courses. While it has to be said that there is clear evidence of a strong link between students’ English proficiency levels and their academic achievements on EMI courses, this seminar will explore the question of whether it is possible to design assessments in such a way that they reflect students’ actual content knowledge, rather than being drawn into evaluating their language proficiency.
