Position Announcement

The International Relations Program (IRP) at the Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) of the International University of Japan (IUJ) offers Master’s and PhD degrees in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Political Science. The IRP currently seeks applications for a tenure-track position (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor level) to begin April 2027 or later.  

Education and Degree Requirements

Prospective candidates are expected to:

  • have a doctorate degree in International Relations, Political Science or a relevant field by the time of the appointment
  • have primary expertise in East Asian politics but this may also include non-traditional security
  • English fluency is required for graduate-level teaching and supervision
  • Japanese working-level proficiency is highly preferred

Application Process

The successful candidate will teach four eight-week courses in the Master’s program per academic year, distributed across the three terms (fall, winter, and spring), and may also teach a PhD course in the future. In addition, the candidate will supervise graduate research projects (Master’s thesis or research reports) and may serve on the PhD supervisory committee once eligible. 
One overseas business trip per academic year may be required.

Compensation

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in addition to the benefits for housing or commuting. IUJ provides on-campus housing options for faculty and their families.

  3. Transcript of doctoral program
  4. A writing sample (e.g., published paper, paper under review, dissertation)
  5. Three letters of recommendation (can be sent from referees)
  6. Teaching evaluations (if available)
