COVID19 Prevention – COCOA app and What to do if Exposed
The IUJ Community is asked, and strongly recommended to upload the COCOA application to help stop the spread of the COVID19 virus with early detection of exposure. COCOA stands for COVID-19 Contact Confirming Application – details HERE
The APP is provided by the Ministry of Health and Welfare Japan and protects your privacy while giving you needed information on virus exposure. If someone you have been near checks that they tested positive for COVID19, you will be alerted (not WHO just that someone you were near). COCOA:
- Is anonymous
- Is NOT a GPS tracking system
- Deletes data that is 14 days old automatically
Please download the application from the App Store on Apple devices, or from the Google Play store on Android.
What to Do If Exposed
If you receive a notification of exposure from the COCOA App, it means you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID19 and you may have been exposed. Please return to your dorm room immediately (or faculty housing) and call to the Office of Student Services (x103) or Dorm Director (x555) in non-business hours (faculty, please contact the OGA at x101). They will support you as follows:
- Ask you about your travel and where you may have been exposed: where, when, who, situation. We will keep this private, but please help by sharing your information.
- Ask you about your current condition and any symptoms.
If you have no symptoms, we will ask you to be even more careful about your preventative measures of washing hands often, sanitizing, wearing masks, and social distancing for 14 days. Please monitor your temperature several times a day, reporting to the OSS once a day (students) with a photo of your temperature. Please keep very vigilant about your condition. But you are free to attend class, etc.
If you do have signs of infection or any symptoms, please stay in your room and contact the OSS or Dorm Director (Faculty to OGA). They will ask about various symptoms you may have, and call to the local Health Services Center on your behalf to receive their advice and guidance. During this time, do not leave your room.
Students: For support with food, drink, etc., please call upon your IUJ Buddy Team (notified at the time of arrival to IUJ). Your buddy team can bring you what you need, leaving it outside your dorm room. Please keep a larger than usual social distance, opening your dorm room door only after they have left the area. Use Messenger video chat, etc. to keep in to contact with your buddies and the OSS.
If and when the Health Center advises, you will get help to go to the medical facilities for proper testing and diagnosis. Please do NOT go on your own if you suspect COVID19 exposure, but wait for the instructions from the health services.
Prevention is the key. If not, then early detection and preventing any spread becomes the priority. Please fully participate in all prevention protocols for your safety our our entire community. THANK YOU
