On June 24, 2026, the IUJ Research Institute (IRI) hosted a seminar in cooperation with the Foundation for the Advancement of Life Insurance in Asia (FALIA) at the MLIC Hall.
The seminar featured a presentation by Mr. Masayuki Tanaka of FALIA on the theme “International Comparison of Corporate Governance and Sustainable Management.” Participants learned about international perspectives on corporate governance and sustainability, as well as the importance of responsible management in addressing global challenges.
Mr. Tanaka also introduced the FALIA Essay Competition, an annual essay contest for international students studying in Japan. The presentation provided an overview of the competition, its objectives, and the opportunities it offers students to engage in research and academic writing on contemporary social and economic issues.
A highlight of the seminar was the presentations by Ms. Lahiru Nirasha Tharamasinghe (GSIM), winner of the First Prize in the 2025 FALIA Essay Competition, and Ms. Janakee Dilrukshi Gunathilake Hennaka Ralalage (GSIR), recipient of the Effort Award.
The two students introduced the research topics of their award-winning essays, explaining their research objectives, methodologies, and key findings. They also shared their personal experiences throughout the competition, including their motivations for participating, challenges encountered during the writing process, and lessons learned from the experience.
In addition, both speakers encouraged fellow students to consider applying for the competition. They emphasized that participation provided valuable opportunities not only to compete for prizes, but also to strengthen their research and academic writing skills, deepen their understanding of important social issues, and gain confidence in presenting their ideas to a wider audience.
The seminar attracted approximately 45 students from various programs. Participants actively engaged in the discussion and gained valuable insights into both the competition and broader issues surrounding sustainable management.
