This is a guide regarding emergency exits, fire equipment, etc. on the IUJ campus. Please surely look this through and understand the contents enough for to respond appropriatately in an emergency.
1. Emergency Exits *PDF format
Since the emergency exits are fundamentally set up based on the principle of “Each story has 2 directions for emergency exit”, please check both directions for safety, and leave from either one, or exit according to guidance given by an announcement etc.
Since elevators have the danger of stopping part way down and being locked shut, please never use them in the case of an emergency.
2. Emergency Ladders
・Research Institute (The east side of the passage of 3F and 4F)
・MSA (Verandas of 201, 206, 301, 306, 401 and 406)
・R3 (Verandas of all the houses)
When the usual exit cannot be used, please use the Emergency Ladder. Please use it after checking lower story safeｔｙ.
In addition, since it may block the emergency exit, please do not place anything near the Emergency Ladder.
3. Emergency Partitions
・MSA (Verandas of 202, 203, 204, 205, 302, 303, 304, 305, 402, 403, 404 and 405)
In case of emergency, please kick this panel open and exit to the adjoining space.
When the usual exit cannot be used, please use the Emergency Partition. Please use it after checking the safety of the space next door.
In addition, since it may block the emergency exit, please do not place anything near the Emergency Partition.
4. Fire Extinguishers
A Fire Extinguisher is installed in the passage of each story etc.
To use, please pull out the safety cork first, next, remove the hose and aim it towards the origin of the fire, grasp the handle lever firmly and emit the fire-extinguishing chemical.
5. Fire Hydrants
6. Fire Alarm System
The Fire Alarm System is triggered by sensors mounted in the ceilings of the rooms or passages. An alarm bell then sounds.
There are Heat Detectors and Smoke Detectors in the sensors, and they have been installed according to their appropriate locations. Since Heat Detectors are also triggered by people’s skin temperature, please do not touch. Since the Smoke Detector’s are also triggered by the smoke of tobacco, please keep this in mind.
7. Fire Doors and Fire Shutters
Fire Doors and Fire Shutters close automatically when the Smoke Detector has been triggered. Even if it is closed, if a door is pushed or pulled by hand, can be used as an emergency passage.
