Christopher graduated from IUJ in 1995 with a Masters in International
Relations. His career since then has taken him through sports competition
management (the Nagano Winter Olympics), marketing communications and
multimedia development and design, but he has also been actively engaged
in freelance photography on the side.
A list of some of his credits include commercial work for Carlsson Marketing, Cartan Tours, and Visa, as well as editorial assignments for the Hachijuni Bank, the International Olympic Organizing Committee, and various local governments in Japan. He has won awards for his photography in several regional and national competitions. Christopher thinks that Japan is a photographer's paradise. "There is such a rich texture to the landscape, and the variety of scenery is overwhelming. The distinctness and beauty of the seasons compounds wealth of photo opportunities. There is so much to see and capture with the lens --- I never tire of the place." Christopher, in fact, has traveled extensively throughout Japan, and knows some areas better than the locals. This knowledge, in addition to his knowledge of the Japanese spoken and written language, has allowed him to serve as a location scout and assistant for Sports Illustrated. "I love the central mountainous areas of Japan (such as in Nagano and Gifu), where you can still find scenery that seems untouched by time. But I am particularly fond of the Sea of Japan. I know pretty well every inch of coastline from the Noto Peninsula (Ishikawa prefecture) to Akita, including Sado Island." Christopher currently lives in Yokohama and is available to answer any questions relating to the images in the IUJ galleries. He has an extensive collection of other images taken during his 10 years in Japan, and is available for freelance assignments.
