The Graduate School of International Relations is widely recognized internationally as a source of professionals who play leading roles around the world. The Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) is intended to equip students with political, economic, and management skills, as well as historical and cultural perspectives, so that they may become professionals who can understand and analyze critical issues in international relations. The school, utilizing the experiences of Japan and other countries in the Asia-Pacic region, examines these issues within a broad and coherent theoretical framework. The GSIR is designed to also help students acquire a long-term vision of the rapidly changing world, appreciate diverse perspectives reecting global and local contexts, and enhance their knowledge and problem-solving capabilities in contemporary international affairs. By going through a process of writing a thesis under supervisors who went through vigorous graduate work themselves at top-notch universities, students will be trained to develop the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues related to their respective fields, and apply these acquired skills and knowledge in their future careers after graduation. In September 2015, the GSIR will launch doctoral programs consisting of an Economics Cluster, a Public Management Cluster, and an International Relations Cluster corresponding to a Ph.D. in Economics, Public Management, and International Relations, respectively. GSIR is designated as one of the partnership universities by scholarship programs such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB), and Asian Development Bank (ADB). Through these scholarships, we have accepted many students from governmental organizations and central banks. Not only the academic experience, but also the personal connections students make are assets they can utilize in their future careers.Makoto KakinakaProfessor, Graduate School ofInternational RelationsDean's MessageInternational Development Program (IDP)●MA in International DevelopmentThis program fosters professionals with the knowledge, analytical methods, and theoretical framework necessary for building a peaceful, environmentally friendly, equitable international community.●MA in EconomicsThis program is designed to foster professionals who will formulate and implement policies with an emphasis on achieving sustainable economic growth.
