International University of Japan

UJ is international not just byvirtue of its stimulating multiculturalcampus but also because of our network of 3,600 alumni extending to 115 countries. The strong links among alumni and their enduring attachment to IUJ reflect the relationships cultivated through the experience of living together on campus for two years as members of the IUJ community. Capitalizing on this international network, IUJ intends to expand double-degree programs with leading universities, centering on those in Southeast Asia. IUJ will open representative offices in this region. IUJ graduates pursuing careers in government, business, research or other spheres around the world will extend their support to the double-degree programs and to IUJ’s offices overseas. The alumni network helps secure sustainability and scalability. As a first step, IUJ will strengthen relationships with Indonesian universities that have been offering double-degree programs with IUJ since 2006 from which some 200 students have already graduated. As IUJ faculty members have close links with faculty members at certain universities in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Vietnam, we intend to introduce double-degree programs with these universities and open ofces there. Through participation in the Top Global University Project, IUJ will make a concerted effort to accomplish four key objectives. Our overarching goal is the enhancement of IUJ’s education and research systems so as to foster capable, talented, internationally oriented people who can help resolve pressing global issues and thus hasten the emergence of a more peaceful, equitable, prosperous and sustainable world.Advantage of IUJ's characteristicsIhe Language Education Research Center opened in 2014 will offer practical Japanese-language education through collaboration with 55 Japanese companies with which IUJ has Global Partnerships. The programs will cover Japanese business practices and the Japanese-language skills required of foreign nationals by Japanese companies operating in Southeast Asia. A pilot online Japanese-language education program created in cooperation with a vocational school in Myanmar will also be rolled out in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos within the next five years. Textbooks on the Japanese language and on Japanese business practices will be translated into local languages and industry-academia collaboration will be promoted. Plans also call for the scope of collaboration with Japanese companies operating in these Southeast Asian countries to be expanded to include an internship program. This will provide opportunities for local Japanese companies to meet excellent local people and vice versa. For local people, internship opportunities will be incentives to study and also to gain practical skills. For Japanese companies seeking readily available human resources, the offering of internships is an opportunity to secure talented local people for their workforces.TPlan for the Top GlobSending Japanese students elsewhere in Asia on double-degree programsBecome a source of global leaders ready to serve the worldHelp Japanese companies fulll their educational needsSupport progress of Japanese companies201300020232815122019281510201628156123Number of students participating in internshipsNumber of students participating in volunteer programsNumber of students completing double-degree programs201300%3202350070%25201930060%20201610050%20123Number of students participating in Japanese-for-business programsRatio of students who completed the program to all students on the programNumber of students who completed the program and were recruited by an overseas operation of a Japanese companyInternational University of Japan 6
