IUJ EVOLUTION In September 2014, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science andTechnology (MEXT) selected IUJ for its Top Global University Project. From 109 applications led by 104 national, public, and private universities in Japan, MEXT selected 37 institutions. Building on what IUJ has already achieved, we will eagerly take up new challenges as a leader of Japan’s ongoing internationalization.Establishing a New Global Standardfrom AsiaTop Global University ProjectUniversities selected for the Top Global University ProjectThe Top Global University Project is a MEXT initiative to enhance the international compatibility and competitiveness of higher education in Japan by channeling support to universities of international stature or that are innovative. Amid ongoing economic globalization, the fostering of talented people capable of performing effectively in a global setting is indispensable for Japan’s continued prosperity. The universities selected for the Top Global University Project are taking initiatives based on their educational philosophies. These initiatives include stepped-up exchanges and collaboration with leading universities worldwide, refashioning administrative and management systems, and strengthening schemes for developing students’ global capabilities.
