More about the events:
Having been independent since 1975, Mozambique experienced a Civil War that started in 1977 and lasted until 1992. After the war ended, a high volume of firearms remained in the country. In 1995, the TAE project (Transformação de Armas em Enxadas/ Transforming Arms into Tools) started. Decommissioned arms were collected and replaced with farming tools and bicycles, sewing machine, etc. Retrieved weapons were broken down, and then transformed into sculptural forms of art. Pieces of this artwork have reached an international public including renowned art museums such as the British Museum, representing both the tragedy of that war and the human triumph of those who achieved a lasting peace.

IUJ will offer an exhibition that displays pieces of artwork owned by NPO Ehime Global Network (EGN), which supported the TAE project from Japan. The IUJ Open Seminar will also be conducted by the President of EGN for people in local community.
Many students from Mozambique and African countries have been studying at IUJ. It has also accepted many students, faculty and researchers from countries that have experienced civil war including Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
IUJ will present the exhibition and seminar, hoping that new forms of cooperation will be generated among universities, students and people in Uonuma, Niigata, Japan and the world by way of IUJ where the world gathers.
