Dr. N. S. Cooray is an Assistant Professor at International University of Japan (IUJ). Prior to joining this university he was a Research Associate at the United Nations University/Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU/IAS), Tokyo and a UN Researcher at the United National Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), Nagoya. He has worked in Sri Lanka as a teacher, a visiting lecturer and a wharf manager (CWE). He holds a BA Honours (Colombo), Diploma in Economic Development (Colombo), MA (International University of Japan) and Ph.D. (Nagoya), all in economics. His publications include several referred articles, several book chapters and two edited volumes.

He is a life member of Sri Lanka Association of Economists (SLAE), Member of Japan Association of Economics and Econometric, East Asian Economists Association and American Economists Association. Cooray was a Visiting Fellow at the Tokyo University, Institute of Development Studies at Sussex, and has taught at University of Tsukuba and Yokkaichi University in Japan. He has about 20 years of teaching, research, training, and administrative experience.
