GSIR Admission Schedule

1)An interview serves two purposes. One is to judge whether an applicant has a well-defined research project to undertake at IUJ. The other is to help an applicant identify research projects that are both practically important and academically challenging. If the research proposal of an applicant is found to be inadequate but promising or if an applicant shares important goals with the faculty, advice will be given appropriately about how the proposal might be improved. The applicant can rewrite the research plan on the basis of this advice and apply again for the next interview. The process of application and reapplication itself will be of great help to applicants in searching for a clearer vision of what they can accomplish at IUJ.

2) Applicants should select one interview date (preferably an earlier date because of the possibility of reapplication) from the table above and indicate this date on the application form.

3) Applicants can begin their application process at any time, but the application must be completed by the designated deadline for the candidates to take an interview as scheduled.

4) On the basis of the decision made by the Admissions Committee after the interview, unsuccessful applicants may be offered a chance to take another interview, that is to reapply for admission, in the following month without paying an additional application fee. Revised application materials, such as a Research Plan, an Essay, or sometimes an improved English test score, may be required for reapplication.

Admissions Results

Admissions results for successful applicants will be sent by express registered mail to each applicant, regardless of his/her country of residence, on the dates of announcement of admissions results listed in the table above. A list of successful applicants will also be posted at IUJ’s Urasa campus at 13:00 Japan time on those dates. In addition, you can inquire about your result by submitting a request via the IUJ website. Admission decisions cannot be released by telephone. IUJ will not answer any inquiries about unsuccessful results.

Admission Procedures

A Notification of Successful Result does not constitute a guarantee of admission. Successful applicants will be requested to inform us of their intention to enroll, and will be asked to submit some additional documents and pay an admission fee. These actions are referred to as “Admission Procedures”. Details of admission procedures are mailed to successful applicants along with the admissions results. Only those who complete the “Admission Procedures” will be issued an official LETTER OF ADMISSION. This letter is used to obtain a student visa from the applicant’s local Japanese embassy or consulate. Those who fail to complete these procedures will be considered to have declined admission. Deferred admission is not offered at IUJ.
