On Saturday, May 19, 2012, IUJ and Minami Uonuma City co-hosted the 2012 IUJ International Festival commemorating IUJ’s 30th anniversary. The event attracted about 4,000 guests from inside and outside Niigata Prefecture. The guests enjoyed world cuisines found at various country booths, and were entertained by stage performances that opened with Japanese drums followed by traditional dances and modern cultural exhibitions of the world.
On Saturday, November 19, 2011, IUJ's fall event, "Around the World at IUJ" was held. In its third year, the event was a big success attracting about 700 guests who enjoyed IUJ campus and students in an interactive and dynamic way. Attractions included various crafts, games and dances led by students from some of the over 40 countries represented on campus. This movie was filmed and edited by an IRP student from Indonesia, Mr. Rendrian Maharsya La Ode.
On Saturday, May 21, 2011, the IUJ International Festival was held with the support from Minami Uonuma City and its citizens. This year's event paid special tribute to the people of the Tohoku Region. Even though the event was in a smaller scale, this spirit of connecting the world into one was intact. With delicious dishes served, including Chinese dumplings, Green Curry from Thailand, and Coconut Noodle from Myanmar, people were treated to authentic home cooked foods by the IUJ students. With their stomachs full, the audience enjoyed performances from all parts of the world by the IUJ students in very colorful national costumes.
With initiatives of one IRP student, Oybek Abdusalimovich, a new club was launched at IUJ in 2011; the “Leadership Club.” The Club acts as a platform to develop the leaders for tomorrow, and aims to maintain close communications among students and help students boost their confidence and achieve new skills for the future leadership. IUJ students launched a club called the “Global Concerns Forum” in 2008, with the aim of serving as a forum for students and faculty to share views on various current global issues. One of the active club members, Ms. Sylvia Abney (USA), IRP2011, who is soon to graduate from IUJ, compiled a slide show exhibiting their activities. She made this just for her personal use but the IUJ administration, with her permission, wanted to share this well-illustrated slide show with interested parties.
On Saturday, May 22, 2010, the IUJ International Festival was held drawing 2,000 people from the surrounding communities. With delicious dishes served, including Pho from Vietnam, Green Curry from Thailand, mini hamburgers from the Americas, people were treated to authentic home cooked foods by the IUJ students as well as Japanese food offerings served by several local restaurants and clubs. Awaiting in the gym were performances from all parts of the world by the IUJ students and local people in very colorful national costumes.
On Saturday, November 14, 2009, IUJ's revamped event, "Around the World at IUJ" was held. In this new event, local community enjoyed IUJ campus and students in a more interactive and dynamic way. Attractions included various crafts, games and dances led by students from some of the over 40 countries represented on campus. This movie was filmed and edited by an MBA student from Thailand, Mr. Patchara Udomsartporn.
On Saturday, May 23, 2009, an "International Festival" was held as a spring event for the first time. The event attracted thousands of visitors who enjoyed world cuisines and traditional dances by IUJ students as well as Japanese foods and traditional performances by the people of Minami Uonuma City and surrounding areas. The visitors, especially small children, also enjoyed being outside playing in the fields until the end of the event on a fine spring day. One happy visitor equipped, "It was like taking a trip around the world!"
On Saturday, November 8, 2008, IUJ and Minami Uonuma City co-sponsored an "International Festival" for the second time and attracted 2,500 visitors who enjoyed world cuisines and traditional dances by IUJ students as well as local specialty goods and Japanese traditional performances put on by the people of the City and surrounding areas.
The IUJ Open Day 2007 was held as "International Festival" to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of IUJ, and express our appreciation to all who support the IUJ community including local people around Minami Uonuma city and Uonuma city.
